Peace & security in the south caucasus program
The Peace & Security in the South Caucasus program offers an in-depth understanding of the culture and politics of region through coursework in political history, security issues, nationalism, and democratization. Participants also study Azerbaijani, Chechen, Georgian, or Russian language, offered at all ability levels.
Offered in Tbilisi, Georgia at Ilia State University
Available during the Summer term (5 weeks)
20 – 25 hours per week of regional studies coursework in local history, national identities, religions, and geopolitical events, all taught in English by expert host-institution faculty
Students also receive basic instruction in Azerbaijani, Chechen, Georgian, or Russian language – no prior knowledge is required. Students with previous language experience continue at the appropriate level
Participants earn 8-10 U.S. academic credits in political science and sociology through Bryn Mawr College
Housing with carefully-selected, experienced host families who provide two meals per day
Cultural activities & regional excursions, including short trips to Armenia and Azerbaijan, led by in-country staff
Comprehensive health, accident, and evacuation insurance for all participants abroad
