Program Description:
Brussels, Belgium floral carpe
Spend a semester in Brussels!  Take courses in English with a focus on Europe and the EU, travel to various countries as part of VC's Art History course, and participate in an internship for credit!  Students love being in a central location in Europe to see other countries easily, and Brussels offers a beautiful European backdrop to their academic and professional pursuits.

A list of the courses offered at Vesalius College is available at the course information link. Students applying to this program should plan to meet with the appropriate academic advisors to help determine course selection and to seek the necessary course approval(s).

All students will be registered by the Study Abroad Office as full-time students during their semester abroad, which is 12 hours for undergraduate students and 9 hours for graduate students.  Undergraduate students must return with the equivalent of at least 12 hours of credit on their host university transcript (9 hours for graduate students).  Students can take additional hours and are not limited to the minimum full-time requirement while abroad.  All courses are graded on an ABCDF scale.  There is no Pass/Fail.

Students have the option of living in a home stay, off-campus dormitory or apartment, or making arrangements independently.  Vesalius College provides a Housing Coordinator, and UM recommends using the Housing Office at VC to assist in finding housing.  The Housing link provides information on the housing options available.

For the Vesalius College exchange, students are responsible for paying:
  • Current, full-time, UM tuition (including non-resident fees, if applicable)
  • UM Study Abroad fee (includes the cost for international health insurance)
  • Housing costs (details and payment are usually handled between the student and the host university)
  • Travel expenses, books and supplies, personal living costs, passport and visa fees (all the responsibility of the student)
NOTE: This exchange is currently out of balance, which means that students pay VC's tuition price.  The tuition is approximately 5,900 euros for a semester.

Students who withdraw or become ineligible after the application deadline will be responsible for a withdrawal fee.

Students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing to study abroad and must have a cumulative 2.7 GPA.  Additional or more stringent requirements may apply depending on the program.

In general, financial aid will apply to UM study abroad programs.  All students should review the study abroad information on the Financial Aid Office website.  It is the student’s responsibility to meet with a financial aid advisor to discuss how aid packages apply to study abroad.  Third party scholarships may also be available for specific programs, so students should discuss study abroad early and often with the Study Abroad Office and the Financial Aid Office.

For current tuition costs, the Office of the Bursar provides a tuition estimator.

Vesalius College offers a fantastic internship program during the semester.  Students apply in addition to the exchange program and are placed based on academic interests and background. Find more information on their internship program here: Vesalius Internship Programme
