Transportation Services 

Arrival Day and Departure Day

The Office of Global Engagement provides FREE transportation services to and from the Memphis International Airport (MEM) on our official Arrival Day and Departure Day at the beginning and end of each semester. Please check the Important Dates and Current Costs page and review all pre-arrival communications for official dates, and communicate with us before booking your flight for Arrival Day. We ask that you arrive before 10:00 PM on Arrival Day(s) so we can accommodate delayed arrivals.

New students should submit their flight and arrival information on the online Study Abroad Portal in the post-decision questionnaire section to reserve a space on our Arrival Day shuttle. We will collect departure information before the end of each semester, so you are not required to submit departure information as part of your application. Departure Day shuttle registration will be shared in your weekly international student newsletter.
 
If you are considering arriving before our official Arrival Day, contact exchange@olemiss.edu as soon as possible to confirm that your housing will be available on your planned arrival date and time. Airport shuttle transportation on days before or after the official Arrival Day or Departure Day must be arranged independently. In some cases, airport transportation outside of official dates will cost $90 or more per student.

Getting Around Oxford

The city of Oxford offers a public transportation system called OUT (Oxford University Transit) Bus Systems. There are several routes, and the route and schedule information is included in the welcome packet you will receive upon arrival. Routes connect students to campus and to local areas, including student apartment complexes, grocery stores, downtown, and more.

Bicycles

Many UM students, staff, and faculty bike to campus or around campus. Students can rent a bike for the semester through the Ole Miss Bike Shop services. Please visit the Ole Miss Bike Shop website for more information. 

Uber and Lyft

If you have a smartphone, you can download Uber or Lyft. These are the ride-share apps that most students prefer to use. You can request a ride and set your location. A photo of your driver and vehicle details will show up. You can see their location and how far away they are on the map. Please be mindful of your safety when using Uber or Lyft. Always use a PIN code, verify the driver's plate number, and travel with friends when possible.

Local Taxis 

Oxford also has several local taxi providers that students can use to arrange rides. To reserve a taxi, call the taxi provider's phone number and provide your name, location, number of riders, and your pick-up time. Many taxis are available on The Square at night.

If you need to get to and from Memphis International Airport (MEM) outside of our official Arrival and Departure Days, our office recommends the following services:

Outreach Ole Miss

The university's Outreach Office offers a shuttle service to and from Memphis International Airport. If you want to book a shuttle, please visit the Airport Shuttle webpage and fill out the request form at least 6 business days before your flight. The cost is approximately $95.00 per person for a one-way shuttle and $145.00 per person for round-trip service. Costs may vary depending on flight times or high-volume travel dates such as Spring Break or Thanksgiving Break.

 

Memphis Airport Shuttle, LLC

Memphis Airport Shuttle, LLC is a private service provider that offers taxi services to the Memphis International Airport (MEM). It is approximately $100.00 one-way for 1-2 passengers, with an additional $35.00 fee per additional passenger.
