Accessibility
University of Mississippi students with accessibility considerations participate in study abroad programs around the world. The Study Abroad Office is here to support and guide students throughout the study abroad process. Attitudes and perceptions about accessibility and accommodations for students with emotional, learning, or physical disabilities vary depending on program and location.
Students registered with Student Disability Services (SDS) who are eligible for accommodations are eligible to request a letter detailing any accommodations. This letter can then be relayed to the study abroad program to determine if the same accommodations can be made. Planning, preparation, and good communication are key factors for a successful experience abroad. It is recommended for planning to start 6 months in advance.

Questions students should ask:
- What types of accommodations will I need while abroad?
- What are the laws regarding accessibility in the host country?
- Do I have appropriate documentation for accommodations?
- What are the learning and housing environments like?
- What transportation options are available?
- Who on-site (faculty & staff) can provide support for accommodations?
- Is it possible for the program to provide accommodations in the same way that they are provided on the UM campus? If not, am I comfortable with and willing to make adjustments in order to participate?
UM Resources
- If a student discloses their disability needs with their study abroad advisor and Student Disability Services, we can assist with facilitating accommodations abroad.
- The Student Health Center and Counseling Center can support students in their study abroad preparations.
- All students participating in study abroad programs are enrolled in CISI insurance with guidance for access to medical and mental health professionals while abroad.

Prescription Medication Considerations
It is important to research early how to access any prescription medications that a student may be taking.- Speak with the prescribing physician well in advance of the program departure date about obtaining a prescription and/or an adequate supply of medications needed for the duration of the study abroad program.
- Review Mobility International’s information on prescriptions.
- Medications should not be mailed abroad. This would require customs paperwork and may be lost or delayed in delivery.
