Program Description:
passport scholarship

The Study Abroad Office believes that every Ole Miss student should have an international experience, from a study abroad program to a service-learning trip to personal travel.  Traveling abroad gives students a new perspective, a sense of independence, and a way of looking at others through a new global lens.   Students also learn so much about themselves and their own cultures in the process of gaining insight into other cultures and backgrounds.

The Study Abroad Office will assist first time applicants with the application process and pay for all costs associated with the application:
  • ID photos
  • Shipping
  • Standard Application Fee ($135)
Eligibility
  • Students must be first-time applicants for a passport.  This scholarship is not intended for renewing existing passports or reapplying for passports.
  • Students must provide the required documents for application:
    • Proof of citizenship (usually a birth certificate, but there are acceptable substitutions)
      • You must have your ORIGINAL birth certificate. A copy will not be accepted!
    • Proof of identity (usually a driver's license, but there are acceptable substitutions)
  • Students should demonstrate a desire to travel abroad through a short essay.
  • Students must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office to be a passport scholarship recipient.
  • Students do not have to apply for a study abroad program to be a recipient of the passport scholarship!  We hope you will fill up your passport with stamps from studying abroad, but it is not required!
  • Expedited processing is not covered under this scholarship.  If a student needs expedited processing, it will be the student's responsibility to cover the difference between standard and expedited passport processing.
