Program Description:
PROGRAM
Erasmus University Rotterdam is located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands (or Holland).  Rotterdam accommodates 700,000 people and no less than 172 different nationalities. Eighty percent of the population speaks English as a second language. Moreover, Rotterdam is a center for international interchange of art, culture, sport and science. With one of the country’s most impressive skyline, Rotterdam is often referred to as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’. All in all, a perfect destination for your exchange period!

COURSES AND CREDITS
Courses are taught in English and are available in the arts, communication and media, and history.  A three week optional Dutch language course is offered before each semester at an additional cost.

All students will be registered by the Study Abroad Office as full-time students during their semester abroad, which is 12 hours for undergraduate students and 9 hours for graduate students.  Undergraduate students must return with the equivalent of at least 12 hours of credit on their host university transcript (9 hours for graduate students).  However, students must enroll in 30 ECTS (equivalent of 15 hours) at EUR.  Students can take additional hours and are not limited to the minimum full-time requirement while abroad.  All courses are graded on an ABCDF scale.  There is no Pass/Fail.

HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS
Both on and off-campus student housing is available, and EUR assists students with finding and securing housing.  Visit the housing link to learn more.

PROGRAM COSTS
For the Erasmus University Rotterdam exchange, students are responsible for paying:
  • Current, full-time, UM tuition (including non-resident fees, if applicable)
  • UM Study Abroad fee (includes the cost for international health insurance)
  • Housing costs (details and payment are usually handled between the student and the host university)
  • Travel expenses, books and supplies, personal living costs, passport and visa fees (all the responsibility of the student)
Students who withdraw or become ineligible after the application deadline will be responsible for a withdrawal fee.

ELIGIBILITY
Students must be in good academic and disciplinary standing to study abroad and must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA.  Additional or more stringent requirements may apply depending on the program.

FINANCIAL AID
In general, financial aid will apply to UM study abroad programs.  All students should review the study abroad information on the Financial Aid Office website.  It is the student’s responsibility to meet with a financial aid advisor to discuss how aid packages apply to study abroad.  Third party scholarships may also be available for specific programs, so students should discuss study abroad early and often with the Study Abroad Office and the Financial Aid Office.

For current tuition costs, the Office of the Bursar provides a tuition estimator.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND LINKS
