Get Involved & Global Ambassadors

Get Involved & GAsGlobal Ambassadors

The Global Ambassador program pairs visiting international exchange and Intensive English Program students with student mentors at the University of Mississippi to foster cultural understanding and community connections.

Global Ambassadors are representatives of the University of Mississippi who help Study Abroad Office or Intensive English Program students acclimate to life in Oxford. They do so by inviting them to social events and campus activities and introducing them to Ole Miss college traditions such as tailgating, pep rallies, Greek life, and local arts.

Each Global Ambassador will assist a group of two or three exchange students and will be paired with the group based on common interests and majors. Study Abroad Office and Intensive English Program students come from universities across the globe: China, France, Ireland, South Korea, Australia, Germany, and Egypt… just to name a few.

If you are a current University of Mississippi student who is interested in getting to know our international students and helping visiting international connect to Oxford and the Ole Miss Community, then this program is right for you!

How to Get Involved on Campus

On our campus, exchange students are not just visitors. You have the same opportunities to get involved as other University of Mississippi students. We encourage our students to take advantage of all that is going on throughout the semester. Your Global Ambassador will also be a great resource for opportunities to get involved on campus. Below are links to just a couple of the ways you can fully experience campus.

The International & American Student Alliance (IASA)
While several organizations exist to help degree-seeking International students adjust to life in Oxford (and do a great job at it), we focus more on building one-on-one relationships between International & American students and finding ways for them to connect. IASA was founded with the goal of bridging the gap between International Exchange and American students at Ole Miss.

Activities, Excursions, and Events

The Office of Global Engagement also organizes activities and excursions specifically for exchange students. These activities will take place throughout each semester. We offer different opportunities every term, many of which will be free to exchange students. In the past we have taken trips to Memphis to see a Memphis Grizzlies NBA game, the National Civil Rights Museum, and to New Orleans We also have offered activities such as tailgating, bowling nights, movie nights, karaoke, and more! These activities and excursions give students the opportunity to see several representations of American culture!

To stay in the loop about all activities and excursions happening around campus, check your @go.olemiss.edu email for a weekly newsletter sent out through the Office of Global Engagement.
